FAQs

Does the insurance also cover Covid-19 ('Corona') illnesses and quarantine costs?

Yes. All benefits of the international health insurance also apply in the event of a documented Covid-19 illness abroad, including follow-up costs such as hotel costs for quarantine or the resulting return travel costs (e.g. flight). Please note that there is no insurance coverage for travel to areas with level 5 and 6 travel warnings. Current information on travel warnings can be found here.

Who is LAMIE?

LAMIE is an Austrian InsurTech based in Linz. Our vision is to make insurance easy, transparent and, above all, customer-friendly. We offer modern insurance service through digital solutions and easy-to-understand insurance products.

LAMIE acts as a coverholder in relation to the insurance product offered (i.e., insurance agent with the power of attorney to conclude contracts and handle claims for the insurer) and is authorized to offer and conclude the insurance product on behalf of the insurer. However, LAMIE is under no obligation to do so, either towards the insurer or any other insurer.

How are the insurance days calculated?

For each started day of travel abroad, the daily premium stated on your policy is charged using your A1 phone number. The period from 00:00 to 23:59 Central European Time (CET) applies as a day.

What if my cell phone is stolen while on vacation?

If your phone is stolen, we recommend that you immediately block the phone with A1 customer service. If this happens, please also contact LAMIE customer service by e-mail or by telephone at +43 (0)50664 60260, because blocking your phone also deactivates the insurance cover.

Do I pay the same premium for each country?

There are two travel zones for travel coverage: Europe plus Mediterranean countries, and worldwide. Within one travel zone, you pay the same premium for each country in that zone.

How often can I use the travel protection? How long am I insured abroad?

Travel protection can be used for any number of trips. The insurance cover is valid for a maximum of 90 days per trip. From the 91st day the protection is disabled.

Will I be charged if I don't travel?

You only pay for the insurance days that are actually used, so you do not incur any costs with travel protection without an activated insurance day.

Do I have to turn on my smartphone every day during my trip?

No. Three hours after the first time you have turned on your phone abroad, you receive confirmation that the insurance cover has been activated. You can then leave your mobile phone switched off until you return.

How do I pay for travel protection?

The insurance days used are conveniently charged through your A1 phone bill.

How do I know if travel protection is on?

After you have connected to a foreign network once (‘roaming’) and have not connected to the Austrian network within 3 hours, the insurance cover is activated automatically and you receive an e-mail from us informing you that your cover is active. You can also view and manage your policies, personal data, insured persons, and other information at any time in the myLAMIE Customer Portal.

Do I have to use data to activate the insurance cover?

No. It is not necessary to use mobile data (‘data roaming’) to activate travel protection. All you need to do is turn on your mobile phone once when you are abroad and allow it to connect to the foreign network.

Is cancellation insurance included?

No. Since the protection is only activated when you leave Austria and is only charged at this point in time, no cancellation insurance is included in the travel protection.

How can I cancel the travel protection?

The travel protection can be cancelled at any time and without giving reasons by emailing kundenservice@lamie-direkt.at. The termination is carried out on the next working day. If you want to reactivate LAMIE travel protection at a later date, you can do so at any time.

How is travel protection activated?

In order to use travel protection, you first need to register for the insurance product with your A1 mobile phone number. As soon as you connect to a foreign network (‘roaming’), travel protection is activated. Your insurance is deactivated when you return to Austria and join your home network. It is important that you take your mobile phone with you and switch it on once when crossing the border (or after landing when travelling by plane), otherwise we cannot tell that you are abroad. Data roaming does not have to be activated at any time.

Do I have to announce my planned trips in advance?

Travel protection is real-time insurance. You do not have to tell us in advance when, how long or where you are going. The protection applies from the time your mobile phone connects to the foreign network and ends when you return to your home network. As a result, you don’t pay unnecessary premiums if your trip is cancelled or you come home earlier than planned — and you don’t risk staying abroad without insurance cover if you unexpectedly stay longer. Your travel insurance gives you full flexibility.

How does the family tariff work?

With the family tariff, you can register an additional adult and up to 3 children as insured persons. These children must be family members, i.e., your children or the children of your spouse, registered partner or common-law partner if they are under the age of 21 (including foster and adopted children). The basic requirement for insurance cover is that these people travel with you, since your A1 phone number triggers activation and deactivation of the coverage (‘roaming’).

Can I use travel protection in a border region where my phone frequently switches to the international network?

The prerequisite for the insurance cover is that you have connected to a foreign network once and have not returned to Austria within 3 hours. The insurance cover is only activated after 3 hours from logging into a foreign network (‘roaming’). Frequent switching between the home network and a foreign network does not lead to activation.

Do I have to use travel protection every time I travel?

No. If you wish, you can deactivate travel protection individually at the beginning of each trip. You can deactivate the protection for the respective trip using the link provided in the confirmation email you receive 3 hours after you have been connected to the foreign network. In this case, the insurance cover is deactivated for the entire trip. After returning to Austria, the protection is automatically reactivated on the next trip.

I would like to change my personal data or insured persons. How does it work?

Simply log in to the myLAMIE Customer Portal. You can view and change insured persons, your policies, and data yourself.
